The club has just returned from another far away tour. This time, the squad visited Vancouver in Canada, playing two games vs. British Columbia under 21’s. The 1st game was won by 26-25, whilst the 2nd game against Merlaroma saw Glynneath losing by 10-30, perhaps the wrong end of the tour!

On Saturday 22nd June, Glynneath RFC held their Annual Dinner Presentation Night at the newly refurbished clubhouse. Chairman Jackie Pearce welcomed the guests and the Mayor, Cllr. David Pugh thanked the club for making their facilities available for so many different associations. President Max Boyce welcomed and introduced guest speaker Mr Clive Rowlands OBE who gave an entertaining speech. Master of Ceremonies Stephen Evans, also team manager, announced the awards on the playing front:

1st Team Player – Richard Knoyle
Players’ Player – Ashley Hopkins
Athletic Player of the year – Martin Spears
Most Improved Player – Lyndon Davies

Stephen thanked last year’s captain Darren Davies and the teams for their efforts during the season, and welcomed new coaches Mark Jordan and Gwyn Thomas, two people highly respected in rugby circles, and also John Nedza as new club captain. Thanks also went to David Harrett and John Francis for their help with the under 9’s, to Peter Richards and Mark Jordan with the under 12’s and to Geraint Greenow and Neil Francis with the 2nd XV. With young players making their mark in the 1st XV, such as Grant Bignall, James Davies and Lyndon Davies, it looks as if the future is in good hands. A youth team is restarting next season and if anyone is interested in this or any other age groups, contact Peter Richards on 01639 722144, D. Harrett on 01639 721223 or I. Chattington on 01639 721260.
