19/03/09 Community based Weight Loss Challenge
I am currently running a community based Weight Loss Challenge on a Tuesday evening in St Marys Church, Blaengwrach. The Community Weight Loss Challenge is a 12 week course (1 hour, once a week) started on the the 10th March (currently in week 3 of the present challenge) it is designed to give you the knowledge and support you need whilst losing weight to get to where you want to be.
The Arriba! Wellness Clubs are much more than a 'pay-weigh-and go' weight loss class. Over the 12 weeks we will educate participants on key information that will help them lose weight the right way and keep it off for good.
Participants can join the full 12 week course for just £35 (£2.91per week). At the end of the 12 weeks the biggest loser wins £300, 2nd = £200, 3rd = £100. There are no weight gain or non-attendance fees and participants are free to follow whichever diet plan they choose. Tuesday 24th February is the last chance for people in the local area to join the challenge although people will still be welcome to come along on a weekly basis and weigh.
The club is a non-profit making venture, all monies collected are used for prize money and to cover the costs of running the course. Each participant is assigned a personal weight loss coach who is available at all times (not just at the class) for guidance and advice.

11/02/09 Campaign for New Health Centre
A public meeting at the Glynneath Town Hall last night, attended by over 100 residents, heard the doctors from the Vale of Neath Practice explain why is was vital for planning permission to be given for a new, modern health centre at the site of the former Coal Washery at Aberpergwm. County planners are at the moment reticent to grant permission, stating that there is a better alternative site to the rear of Park Avenue, which is slightly nearer to the centre of Glynneath. However, the doctors explained clearly their reasons for wanting the larger site, which would enable them to develop an impressive centre housing eventually a range of health related facilities to serve the entire upper Neath valley. The public responded overwhelmingly, and a campaign to secure the new centre at Aberpergwm is now under way.
Further details can be obtained from Cllr. Del Morgan, e-mail address: cllr.j.d.morgan@npt.gov.uk.
04/02/09 Request for Photographs
My name is Alan Vaughan. I was born and lived in Glynneath until 1973 when I came to Australia to live. I am looking for school photos of the Glynneath primary and secondary schools which I cannot find on the net - they seemed to have closed them down. Sadly my parents have both passed away and all photos have been lost or destroyed. Can you please help me in anyway? My parents were Charles and Irene Vaughan.
Kind regards, Alan Vaughan - E-mail address: bigal_v@netspace.net.au
